There are various types of transparent optical plastics. In fact, only five are used on a regular basis, ABS, SAN, Acrylic, Polycarbonate, PS (polystyrene), which are the main ones. The exact type used depends heavily on a large number of variables. Transparent optical plastics have a wide range of refractive index values, and the refractive index of polycarbonate is about 1.6. Transparent optical plastics also have a wide range of temperature and chemical resistance, although chemical resistance is usually not a major problem because optical systems are usually not exposed to harsh chemical environments.

Transparent Plastic Injection Molding Defects and Solution

Flow Line: the reason is that the melt viscosity is too large, the advanced melt flow is condensed in the cavity, and then into the melt flow after the condensation surface, leaving a flow mark. Solution: optimize melt flow, increase molding and die temperature, injection pressure, increase vents, and use as little lubrication as possible.

Silver Mark: in the process of filling and cooling, the internal stress and resin flow direction are produced in the vertical direction. But the non-current orientation flow and orientation flow have different refractive index flash wire shapes. After expansion, the transparent plastic part may have weak strength. Annealing is one of the options. Solution: Because the craze is mainly caused by wet resin, make sure the resin is dry before processing.

Surface Glossy: the insert cavity is not polished well. And the cooling rate of the resin is too fast so that the resin is not in the actual molding state. Solution: the mold temperature machine is used to adjust the mold temperature, up the injection molding pressure, and prolong the cooling time.
